MTN Project Fame winner, Chidinma is now a Gospel Artiste; The Nigerian recording artiste has denounced her affiliation with the secular music industry.
Chidinma’s affiliation with the secular music industry ended after she signed up with the Christian record label, Eezee Concept, the same record label that the popular Mercy Chinwo belongs to.
Ekile has released a gospel song titled, ‘Jehova overdo’, which marks the beginning of her journey in the gospel music industry.
Chidinma Ekile came into the limelight in 2010 when she emerged as the winner of the 3rd edition of the reality show, MTN Project Fame.
After winning, she was signed up with iLLBliss and Clarence Peters’ record label, Capital Hill/Goretti Company, and became a West African sensation with the single, ‘Kedike.’
Another single she released is ‘Emi Ni Baller,’ which won Best Video at the 2014 Headies. At the 2012 edition of the KORA Awards, Chidinma won Best Female West African Act. She was also nominated for Best Female Act at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards.
Despite her popularity as a pop star, Chidinma has remained one of the most inspirational singer-songwriters in the music industry. Her style of music has always been in between, it was not necessarily sensual or controversial like her counterparts; instead, she has always maintained a positive outlook.
Once in a while, she meddles into relationship and romance-themed songs, but Chidinma continued to uphold the ‘good girl persona.
Before her decision to become a gospel artiste, she had been seen performing in church concerts and moderated Christian events- such as youth fellowship, etc.
Furthermore, she has always been a conservative in her decade-long music career and Chidinma maintained her Anita Barker-Esque hairstyle. Several people have argued that her hairstyle was due to her religious background. However, she has never explained why she keeps the hairstyle.
It was only a matter of time before she went back to the church, where she initially started her music career.
On Sunday, the 2nd of May, the songstress announced her official rebrand as a gospel artiste.
The announcement came with the celebration of her 30th birthday, as she revealed she is now a soldier of Christ.
She made the public announcement in an Instagram post when she wrote that, “MY NAME IS MINISTER CHIDINMA EKILE. I’M A CRUSADER OF THE GOSPEL OF JESUS. I’M A CRUSADER OF THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST.”
