Loyal members of Boko Haram have confirmed Shekau’s Death
Loyal members of Boko Haram have confirmed Shekau’s Death on Tuesday the 15th of June, 2021. They confirmed the Late Boko Haram leader killed himself.
Some terrorists who happened to be loyal to Abubakar Shekau’s Jama’atu Ahlussunnah Lidda’awati Wal Jihad (JAS), otherwise known as Boko Haram, also confirmed his death yesterday.
Initially, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) stated that on the 19th of May, this year, the former Boko Haram leader, Shekau blew himself up after refusing to surrender following their invasion of his hideout.
It was reported that the Boko Haram leader killed himself with a bomb when he noticed that the ISWAP fighters wanted to capture him alive.
ISWAP is a group that broke away from Shekau’s Boko Haram faction in the year 2016, majorly because it disagreed with the late extremist leader over his excessive use of force, especially on Muslims in areas under his control or influence.
According to the leader of ISWAP, Abu Musab Albarnawi, its fighters took their arms, travelled through the Sahara, arrived at Shekau’s enclave, and engaged in a fierce gun battle with his followers.
In a video gotten by some journalists in Maiduguri, Boko Haram members now led by one Bakura Sahalaba also confirmed Shekau’s death.
Sahalaba, who claimed that the faction of the late Shekau’s terrorist group is still very much alive and active, also denounced ISWAP and insisted that it is not all over for the Boko Haram group.
Some of the weapons one could see with the Boko Haram fighters in the video are AKM(S)/type 56 pattern rifles, Romanian PM ME. 90 & PM MD. 63 rifles, Zastava M21S rifles (likely from Cameroon) and PK/type 80 pattern GPMGs.
The late Shekau according to the ISWAP was more of a threat to the members because of his extremist views that played out in how he behaved and treated orders around him. Hence, it seemed fitting to apprehend the former Boko Haram leader but he took his own life instead.
