FG warns parents and others to be vigilant- ‘We can’t secure all schools’
The Federal Government/ FG warns parents and others to be vigilant- ‘We can’t secure all schools’ Hence, it is important for Nigerians to take security measures.
The Federal Government has emphasized the need for Nigerians to be very vigilant to stop attacks on schools and the kidnapping of students.
Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, The current Minister of State for Education, who stated this in an interview on Monday the 15th of March, indicated that government could not possibly secure every school in the country.
According to him, the government has informed schools to ensure they report any security threat at the closest security agency or a police station.
During the interview, the minister was asked what steps the government took to protect schools from constant attacks by these bandits.
He responded, “Constant vigilance is the price for security. Every nation is always concerned about the safety of its people.
It is crucial to note that the Federal Government cannot possibly protect every house. Everybody must be vigilant. This message has been passed across to all our schools so that no matter where they are if there is any threat, they are aware of the closest security agency to report.”
The Minister of Education also claimed that almost all schools in the country were fenced. “Almost all the schools in Nigeria, whether private or owned by the Federal Government, are mostly all fenced, except maybe some state schools.
“As you may also be aware, even if you put up a fence, these people (bandits) have been known to come through gates.
“So, perimeter fencing, by themselves, are not too effective. The security consciousness is the thing. If you hear where some of them are being held, you will know that it is a question of self-consciousness and communities informing officials on time.”
