Oshiomhole Apologises And Congratulates Governor Obaseki
Oshiomhole apologises and congratulates Governor Obaseki on the supreme court ruling. Oshiomole stated that what happened was rather unfortunate.
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole humbled himself by sending a letter of apology to Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, where he also congratulated the governor on the Supreme Court ruling that cleared him of alleged certificate forgery.
Governor Obaseki’s dispute with the former Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomole is one of the reasons why he left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and went on to mount a bitter campaign against him during the Edo State governorship election. Obaseki won the election by clean and fair votes from the people of Edo State, flying the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
However, Oshiomhole challenged the qualification of governor Obaseki and accused him of forging his university certificate, a case that terminated in victory for the Edo State chief executive recently.
However, a remorseful Oshiomhole, in a two paragraph letter which he personally signed, said on Monday the 31st of May, 2021, that whatever happened was unfortunate.
He stated that the decision of the apex court had closed all issues regarding the election.
Oshiomhole urged Obaseki to be generous in victory as governor of all Edo people, regardless of political partiality.
Some part of the letter read:
“Congratulations on your victory at the Supreme Court which has effectively laid to rest all matters arising from the last election.
“As I had repeatedly reminded you during our several meetings, our relationship has through the years developed beyond being friends to being brothers of different parents.
“Whatever happened was unfortunate and I believe God has a reason for everything.
“I have put all behind me and moved on. As I have consistently advised, please be magnanimous in victory.
“You are the governor of all Edo people regardless of political leanings.
“Once again, congratulations, Excellency! Please, accept the renewed assurances of my very best wishes and high regards.”
It is rather unfortunate that the bitter fight to unseat Obaseki had also cost Oshiomhole his position as National Chairman of the ruling APC.
Furthermore, the governorship candidate of the APC in Edo state during the September 19, 2020, governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who had initally congratulated Governor Obaseki on his recent victory at the Supreme Court, has also. Through a letter, he appealed to the governor to initiate an out-of-court settlement for the 14 elected state House of Assembly members who are yet to be inaugurated 23 months after they had been elected.
In addition, Ize Iyamu called on the governor to consider paying the entitlements of elected local government council chairmen, vice-chairmen, elected councillors, and supervisory councillors who were removed from office before the election.
He said: “Last Friday’s judgment of the Supreme Court puts an end to the series of litigations we had over last year’s governorship elections.
“For the records, Your Excellency, your supporters had instituted thirteen (13) different pre-election cases against my deputy and I; all seeking to disqualify us from participating in the election.
“On our part, our party, the APC, had only one case against Your Excellency and your party.
“We also deliberately did not go to the Elections Tribunal, not because we did not have issues but because we felt it was better to allow you to face the job at hand, more so as our party at the National level had congratulated you.
“We are happy that all these cases have come to an end. Now that it is all over, please accept my congratulations.
“Having said that, I want to appeal to you to kindly consider the pertinent issues of the 14 constituencies, including the two in your local government – Oredo and the two in your deputy’s local government – Etsako West, that are presently without representation at the Edo State Assembly.
“Though the matter is in court, you are in a vantage position to consider an out-of-court settlement of the issue, in the overall interest of our state.”
“Your Excellency, for us in the APC, as the opposition party in the state, we have a duty to ensure that your government always does the right thing.”
