The Sultan of Sokoto announces the beginning of Ramadan upon sighting the full moon which signifies that Ramadan can begin.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar has sighted the moon which signals to all Muslim believers that Ramadan can begin.
The Sultan in a live broadcast on Monday the 12th of April, 2021, announced that the Ramadan fast will begin today the 13th of April.
In view of this, all Muslims are to follow due process as regards fasting to ensure that this Ramadan is a favorable one.
The sultan also advised Muslims to ensure strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocol throughout the course of the Ramadan period.
The beginning and end of Islamic months are always determined by the sighting of the new moon.
During Ramadan, Muslims are to abstain from eating, smoking, drinking, and sex from the break of day, up until when the sun goes down.
In addition to that, Muslims would usually have evening prayers in very large social and religious gatherings, but due to COVID-19, restrictions some of these practices would be postponed till the restrictions are lifted.
Muslims are encouraged to really reflect on the reason for Ramadan while undergoing their fast. It should not be seen as just a religious activity one carries out to fulfill the necessary obligations. But it should be seen as a time to reflect.
Spiritual reflection heightened devotion, self-improvement, and putting more effort into learning the teachings of Islam, these are the core of the religion.
Learning the teachings of Islam also doesn’t just stop at the learning stage, but Muslims are to also use this period to practice these teachings. Islam ought to be reflected in the life of every devoted Muslim in character, thoughts, words, and actions.
Ramadan is a special time that Muslims mark when the first chapters of the Quran were given to Prophet Muhammed by Allah. It is a time to draw closer to God and also celebrate this season with family and loved ones.
