On Friday, Domozu, 23, a native of Jarkama Village, Bassa LGA of Kogi State, the leader of the kidnapping gang responsible for the abduction and killing of six-year-old Farida Yahaya in the Gabije district of Kogi State, was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on November 2.

The detail was provided in a press release signed by the spokesperson for the police, Frank Mba.

The victim was kidnapped along with Abdulraheem, 14, who barely escaped from the lair of the kidnappers.

Investigations by the police team found that the kidnappers sought a large amount of ransom from the girl’s family before she could be released, but ultimately killed her because of the family’s inability to meet their demands.

The police team’s attempts to save the little girl led to the capture of the key suspect, Friday Domozu, who led the police team to a deep forest in the Gabije district of Kogi State, where the little girl’s remains were found.

The police team also exhumed another victim’s decomposing skull, later discovered to be the one Ibrahim Madaki had previously reported missing for 40 years.

The victims’ bodies were deposited for autopsy.

Domozu also admitted to the police team on Friday that he was an ex-military trainee who was declared incompetent and eventually removed from medical school for 5 months. In order to apprehend his gang members currently at large, attempts are being strengthened.

Similarly, on June 15, one Halidu Usman of Akwanga, Nasarawa State, the gang leader of the party responsible for the killing of Assistant Immigration Comptroller, Late ACI Salisu Usman, was arrested by the police team in the Gudi region of Akwanga LGA, Nasarawa State.

Suspects raided the victim’s house and murdered him and his younger sister, Sa’adatu Usman, a senior medical student at Usman Danfodio University in Sokoto State.

The killers also kidnapped Asmau Salisu, the victim’s wife, and received ransom from the family prior to her release. In the inquiries and arrest of other members of the gang currently at large, the perpetrator supports the police team.

Police officers have also detained four members of the abduction/armed robbery gang responsible for the recent sequence of abductions of some Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) workers, Zaria and their relatives.

The gang members, 27-year-old Abubakar Aliyu a.k.a Maigiwa, 18-year-old Aliyu Bello, 30-year-old Ishaku Kabiru and 23-year-old Abubakar Yakubu a.k.a Dogo, were apprehended after police inquiries and rescue operations for victims of the kidnapping.

The capture of Abubakar Aliyu, alias Maigiwa, resulted in the arrest of three other members of the group.

Abubakar Aliyu is an ABU Zaria security team member who supplies the gang with details on the victims’ movements and lifestyles. During the mission, some of the hostages were rescued and reunited with their families, and Abubakar Ahmodu, 20.

Investigations show that the duty of Abubakar Ahmodu is to spy on and identify possible victims of gang abduction. He actually gave personal information about his father, leading to the abduction and subsequent extortion of his biological father’s ransom of Two Million Naira.

According to the police, all the suspects will be charged to the court on completion of investigations.

In the meantime, Police Inspector General Mohammed Adamu affirmed the force’s determination to crack down on perpetrators of violent crimes in the region.
