Nigerian Army Captain & 11 Soldiers Killed in Deadly Ambush in Benue

The Nigerian army captain and 11 other soldiers have been killed in a deadly ambush in Benue on Monday the 5th of April, 2021.

Gunmen allegedly killed an army captain and 11 other soldiers in a deadly ambush that happened in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State.

The unfortunate incident happened on Monday, April 5, when A.T Adebayo, an Army Captain alongside four other soldiers, was on a routine patrol to the joint Operation Whirl Stroke located in Oju Local Government Area of Benue state.

It was reported that while going through Konshisha town, the gunmen, who were about 150 in number, laid ambush on the officer and the four soldiers and murdered them on the spot.

It has also been gathered that Konshisha town is a usual route used by troops deployed in Oju and Katsina-Ala local government areas of Benue state.

The town has become notorious for being overtaken by bandits and other military groups.

In addition,  when it was discovered that the officers and army caption were missing, a group of seven soldiers from Oju was sent out to Konshisha town to search for them.

Based on the source given, the seven soldiers who were sent on reinforcement missions too also did not return alive.

After many hours of waiting in vain for their return, a large search and rescue joint operation of troops and Operation WHIRL STROKE went out to search for them.

On getting to the location, it was discovered that the gunmen had stolen the rifles and thousands of ammunition of the dead soldiers.

The scattered body parts of the soldiers were later found in a forest in Gbinde village. The soldier’s operational vans were also burnt to ashes.

During the joint search operations, many other bandits were captured and killed.

The police is currently doing all it can to ensure that the suspects are caught and apprehended to prevent such from happening again in the future.
