The law finally caught up with Mrs Adachukwu Okafor, a lawyer who had been on the run for weeks after she allegedly abused her 10-year-old house help with a broken bottle. The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) announced her arrest on Saturday, following a tip-off from the public.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Ohanenye, had earlier offered a N2 million reward for anyone who could help locate the lawyer, who had gone into hiding after a video of her cruel act surfaced on social media. The video showed how the lawyer used a broken bottle to inflict wounds on the girl, who was working as her domestic help.
The Special Assistant on Media to the Minister, Ohaeri Joseph, issued a statement confirming the arrest of the lawyer and the commencement of an investigation into the case. He said the ministry was collaborating with the NPF to ensure that justice was served for the girl, who was still recovering from her injuries in the hospital.
He also thanked the public for their support and cooperation in the matter, and urged them to report any cases of child abuse to the relevant authorities. (NAN).
