Gunmen attack Police station and shoot three cops in Akwa Ibom State. Thankfully some brave policemen fought back to reduce the negative effects of the attack.

According to the Police Command in Akwa Ibom that has confirmed Saturday’s attack on its Udung Uko Divisional Police Headquarters by gunmen. It was reported that some gunmen attacked the police station shooting three police officers in the process.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko MacDon, confirmed the incident to reporters in Udung Uko in Akwa Ibom on Sunday, the 4th of July, 2021.

Macdon said that the situation would have been far worse if not for some brave policemen on duty who repelled the attack by fighting back. Their act of bravery is what led to limited catastrophe that wouldn’t have been avoided if no action was taken at all.

The PPRO therefore commended the brave officers for acting quickly in defending and protecting the lives of their colleagues.

However, he said that the three officers who sustained gunshot wounds were currently undergoing treatment in an undisclosed hospital  situated in Ekiti state.

“Gunmen on Saturday night attacked the Divisional Police Headquarters in Udung Uko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

“At least three officers sustained fatal injuries, resulting from heavy gunshots as policemen on duty tried to repel the attack,” he said.

According to him, the gunmen are yet to be identified but investigation is currently ongoing to find out their identity and bring them to justice.

Meanwhile, a source, who chose to remain anonymous, told reporters who came to investigate that the gunmen came in a Sienna Toyota vehicle.

Though the gunmen escaped, the police force in Ekiti State says they are doing all they can to prevent the incident from reoccurring and the investigative unit is currently on the case.

People in the State are encouraged to be very careful and aware of their environment due to the insecurity issues springing up in various parts of the country.
