INEC Commences Online Registration For Voters

2023 Elections: INEC begins online registration for voters in order to enable them begin the online voters registration before they finish the process at their specified centres.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started the process of the online continuous voter registration exercise where people who intend to  vote can register before they finish the process at a designated centre.

On the INEC portal new voters, as of Monday the 28th of June, 2021, can pre-register while those who have registered in the past can access the platform to review the status of their voters registration.

Some of the features on the portal includes the ability to update ones personal information, or transfer a voters registration to another polling unit.

This is an amazing development and shows the organization of INEC from the provisions it is putting in place to ensure that the registration process is  not stressful or tedious for intending voters.

Furthermore, registered voters can also request for replacement of damaged or defaced Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVC) on the portal.

Meanwhile, new voters are only required to fill the forms on the portal with their biodata and necessary documents, after they have filled the forms, they are expected to visit an INEC state or local government office to finish the process.

Intending voters are instructed to follow the instructions for whatever they wish to do on the website in order to prevent any form of complications as regards their registration.

INEC has done it’s best to make the process simple and smooth to enable voters finish their registration without any hassle.

In light of the COVID 19 pandemic as well, going through the portal will make polling units less crowded, hence preventing the spread of the virus.

However, intending voters are still advised to wear their face masks in public places at all times and especially when they finally go to their polling unit to complete their registration process.

At the INEC offices, which they can visit from July 19, they will be requested to provide their fingerprints to complete the registration.
