The Federal Government has announced that the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos will be closed for 24 hours for Iyana Oworonshoki-Lagos Island-bound traffic. The closure will start from midnight on Sunday, February 18 to midnight on Monday, February 19, 2024.
According to the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos State, Mrs Olukorede Kesha, the closure is necessary to fix an important section of the bridge that is undergoing comprehensive repairs. She said that the Federal Ministry of Works was informing the motoring public about the temporary measure.
She assured that motorists coming out of the Island and heading towards Oworonshoki would have full access on the bridge throughout the 24 hours closure. She also said that traffic would resume on Monday by 12.00 a.m on the Iyana Oworonshoki-Lagos Island bound.
She urged motorists to use alternative routes, obey traffic regulatory officers and be patient with the government as it continued to repair the important infrastructure.
How to avoid traffic congestion
She listed the alternative routes as follows:
– Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams Avenue-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS
– Ojota- Ikorodu Road- Jibowu – Yaba- Oyingbo-Iddo- Carter bridge- CMS
– Gbagada- Anthony- Ikorodu Road- Funsho Williams –Eko Bridge- Apogbon-CMS
She also advised motorists to cooperate with the traffic management officials deployed to manage traffic and ensure hitch-free movements. She thanked the general public for their past cooperation and understanding and said that the Federal Government was committed to providing lasting infrastructures for the comfort of road users.
