Nigerians speak against the appointment of another ‘northerner’ as IGP
Nigerians speak against the appointment of another ‘northerner’ as IGP because there are already enough northerners in power already.
NIGERIANS have expressed how they are not in support of the appointment of Usman Alkali Baba as new Inspector General of Police (IGP), stating that another ‘northerner’ has been appointed head of the nation’s security outfit.
Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, The Minister of Police Affairs had announced on Tuesday the 6th of April that Usman was appointed the new IGP by President Muhammadu Buhari to take the place of Mohammed Adamu.
However, the appointment made so many Nigerians angry on social media. They lamented that the president had again appointed another head of security from his region.
Cheta Okorafor, while reacting to the announcement, asked if only northerners exist in Nigeria and why there can’t be an Inspector General of Police from the eastern part of the country.
“Another northerner. Are northerners the only people that exist in Nigeria? Why can’t an Igbo man become the IGP?” Okorafor asked.
Taking the same position as Okorafor, African Angel also known as @KelvinpaulX on social media accused the president of setting precedence in his appointment by choosing people from his religion and region into important offices in the country.
Angel said, “Buhari has set an example in his appointments of people from his region and religion into important offices in the country thereby laying to waste the federal character principle.”
@TheVoic61802007 also said any young boy growing up in this country will think that Nigeria was only for a particular section of this country because of how Buhari gives appointments.
Sylvester also known as @AgihSylvester on social media, ironically said the appointment was possible because there was no southerner under the present administration fit to be in charge of any of the security agencies in Nigeria.
Olanusi Akintayo also known as @OlanusiAkin on social media accused the president of exclusion in federal appointments in the country.
“The more you complain about Buhari’s exclusion of other ethnic groups in Federal appointments, the more he displays an attitude that shows his lack of care. I think the people encouraging disunity in this country are the very people at the seat of power; Aso Rock to be specific,” Akintayo said.
Like Andrew, Olu Adenodi aka @OluAdenodi said on social media that the president traveled out of the country before he announced his preference for ‘another Muslim.
