The Governor of Imo State sacks 20 Commissioners out of his 28 commissioners as a way to add more value to the governing system of the state.
On Wednesday the 12th of May, 2021, the governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma sacked 20 out of his 28 Commissioners.
The sacking of the 20 Commissioners started just one month after the governor appointed new commissioners of finance and health.
The eight Commissioners that were not affected during this sudden restructuring are the commissioners for, Health, Youth and Sports, Tourism, Information and Strategy, Woman Affairs, Works, Finance, and Technology.
Two weeks ago, the governor had claimed that some of his appointees were moles sabotaging his administration.
The sacking of the 20 Commissioners was a huge surprise to the appointees that were affected because there was no sign that the announcement would be made.
According to reports, the affected Commissioners attended the weekly state executive council meeting where the governor announced that they had been relieved of their duties.
The sacked commissioners who attended the weekly Exco meeting were not allowed to go home with their cars from the Government House.
According to Nwachuku Oguwike, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, who confirmed the development, he stated that the governor wished the affected appointee well in their future endeavors.
In his statement, he said, ” the news is correct. 20 Commissioners were affected while eight were not affected.
The reason is to infuse new blood and add more value to the governance system of the state.”
In addition to the chief press secretary confirmation, the state Commissioner for information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, also confirmed the sacking of the Commissioners on Wednesday afternoon.
The Governor has taken the decision to protect his administration and to send a message to other government officials in the state that no one is indispensable.
He stays true to his decision for the good of the state, especially with the recurrent security issues facing the country.
