There are signs that the All Progressives Congress leadership, led by Abdullahi Ganduje, may delay the National Executive Committee’s inaugural meeting until 2025.
APC postpone NEC meeting.
The reason, according to sources at the APC Secretariat, is the hectic schedule and unavailability of President Bola Tinubu, who has not yet returned to the country.
“At this time, the President has not returned to the country.” This was also the reason we had to cancel the initial September dates we had selected for the NEC meeting.
“Nevertheless, the likelihood of conducting a NEC meeting this year is no longer a viable option.” There are only two months remaining until the conclusion of the year. Once more, we are unable to resolve the issue during the holiday season in December. According to a source, “2024 is undoubtedly over, but it may be revisited in 2025.”
The concerns were raised scarcely two months after the ruling APC announced an indefinite postponement of its National Caucus and National Executive Committee, which were previously scheduled for September 11 and 12, respectively.
Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary, announced that a new date would be announced at a later time, despite the fact that no cause was provided for the meetings’ suspension.
However, our correspondent discovered that Tinubu’s absence necessitated the cancellation of the two engagements.
Nze Chidi Duru, the National Deputy Organising Secretary of the APC, informed our correspondent that no new date had been fixed when contacted for a response.
Duru was uncertain as to whether the party would continue to conduct meetings in 2024.
He stated, “No new date has been established.” We are unaware of any new dates. Presently, the postponement remains in effect.
Additionally, Abdulkareem Kana, the National Legal Adviser of the APC, expressed the same perspective.
“The date of the subsequent NEC meeting is uncertain.” I am aware that a new date has not been specified.
“We at APC are unable to take any action until we receive a new date from the President.” He declared, “He is anticipated to return to the country at any moment following his travels.”
