Tinubu & Dangote emerge as top Donors for Abuja Mosque Expansion. The fundraising for the Al-Noor Mosque located in Abuja is still ongoing.
Certified Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, and Group Chief Executive of Oando PLC, Mr. Wale Tinubu, emerged as the highest contributors at an appeal fundraising and foundation stone laying for the expansion of the Al-Noor Mosque held in Abuja during the weekend.
The mosque is meant to accommodate about 10,000 worshippers at a time once it is completed. It is currently under the management of the International Center for Islamic Culture and Education (ICICE).
At the appeal fundraising ceremony, the center was able to get over 1.5bn. The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alh. Sa’ad Abubakar III, who was represented by the Emir of Keffi, Alh. Shehu Usman Chindo Yamusa III also performed the foundation stone laying of the project, that took place at the ICICE center in Abuja.
In the early hours at the appeal fundraising, Dangote and Tinubu, who spoke through their representatives, pledged donations of 350 Million and 300 Million respectively for the project to be fully executed.
According to the Director-General of ICICE, Dr. Kabir Kabo Usma, upon completion of the project, the Mosque would accommodate over 10,000 worshippers at a time, and it will also include a conference hall, bookshop, printing press, and Tahfeez classes.
Usman, in his statement at the event, said the expansion of the project was long overdue. In addition, he added that the existing mosque now hosts up to 7,000 worshippers at a time, who are well over its 1,000 people capacity.
He further revealed that the project is meant to be completed in 24 months.
The Chairman of the Committee of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Imams, Dr. Tajuddeen Muhammad Bello, stressed the importance of building a mosque and encouraged all Muslims to give generously to the ongoing project.
Some other speakers at the event included the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, the Grand Mufti of Zimbabwe, Sheikh Ismail Ibn Musa Menk, and the Chairman of the ICICE Board of Trustees, Professor Ibrahim Sulaiman.
They also appealed to Muslims to give generously to the project because of its importance to the propagation of Islam and its many personal gains thereafter.
