The Ebonyi Govt. blames bandits for burning police stations; Umahi says the attacks are from paid bandits, not IPOB.
Dave Umahi, the Ebonyi State Governor has stated that the culprits behind the burning of police stations and killing of both security personnel and residents in South – Eastern Nigeria are bandits that have been paid and not members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)
Umahi, who revealed this in his statement on Wednesday morning, the 14th of April, but did not vindicate IPOB and its security outfit, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), from insecurity in the region.
The governor blamed those who are trying to get to the top by all means for hiring bandits to destabilize the peace of the region. He complained bitterly that the country as a whole was sinking into what he called ‘extreme politics.’
According to Umahi, there are bandits that are perpetrating a lot of evil acts and claiming that they are Eastern Security Network. They commit a lot of atrocities and say that they are IPOB and later IPOB will say they have no hand in it. This is what is going on and illegality will not be allowed to thrive in the land. Conflict will not be used to resolve conflict,
He explained that a lot of people want to get to high positions by all means to the point that they hire bandits to burn police stations, kill people, and yet they still have the guts to come out to say that they are IPOB. They are not IPOB, but rather criminals being hired by people.
“The truth remains that the country is going into extreme politics. It is easier to make money in politics, blackmail people and because of greed, we have left the culture of hard work.”
Furthermore, he warned that the governors of the region would not support any form of illegality but would operate within the context of the law.
Umahi’s statement stressed on the claims by Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma that the recent numerous attacks on the headquarters of the Police and the Nigeria Correctional facility in Owerri that led to the escape of over 1,800 inmates, were caused by bitter politicians in Imo State.
