Police warn against more attacks on schools, churches over hijab.

The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the police command have warned against more attacks on schools and places of worship under the disguise of issues regarding the use of hijab in Christian missionary schools in  Kwara state. Rafiu Ajakaye, The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor,  said on the 22nd of March in Ilorin that the government would not handle attempts to cause trouble in any part of the state with a light hand.

The governor complimented Christian and Muslim leaders for how they’ve been mature in dealing with the matter, just as he advised them to continue to tread the path of peace.

“The administration applauds the maturity displayed from both parties. The government is highly grateful that both sides have restrained their followers to prevent chaos from breaking out.

“Based on that context, the government criticizes the attempts by some fifth journalists to stirrup trouble in different parts of the state. The government will never tolerate this careless behavior and the security agencies have been given their instructions to deal with anyone who attacks the citizens or attempts to attack sacred places or properties under any kind of disguise. The attempt is evil and obviously aimed at downplaying the progress so far created to promote peace and harmony.”

He also encouraged parents to caution their children, because anyone found causing trouble would have themselves to blame.

“The current discussions with different stakeholders will continue without any hindrance and the government encourages leaders in every area to play their roles as indigenes of the state without giving any fifth columnist the opportunity  to provoke them or hinder efforts to promote peace.”

The state’s police command said it will not hesitate to deal with anyone hiding behind any guise to cause issues as the government is aimed at promoting law and order in the state.

DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said it had dealt with the hijab issue in the state with a high sense of maturity, warning thugs to avoid further destruction of property or face the law.

Some charlatans had, on Monday the 22nd of March attacked some places of worship and schools, and destroying properties in the process.

But Okasanmi denied the claims that churches were attacked, shops looted and offices raided by protesters in Ilorin.
