Major Gunfire Duel Occurred between Army and Gunmen in Imo State.
A Major gunfire duel occurred between Army and Gunmen in Imo State on Thursday the 6th of May, 2021. About 8 gunmen were killed and some soldiers injured.
On Thursday, the 6th of May, 2021, there was a heavy exchange of gunfire in Orlu, Imo State, between Nigerian soldiers and some unknown gunmen in Orlu, Imo State.
According to reports from the incident, about eight gunmen were said to have been killed in the incident, while some security forces sustained injuries.
Witnesses at the scene revealed that sounds of explosives and machine guns filled the air and stirred up a lot of fear and worry about what was happening.
It was gathered that the incident which started early hours of Thursday around Banana Junction, ended at about 9:30 pm with the final battle at Nkwito Junction.
About eight vehicles were reportedly recovered from the hoodlums. In addition to the vehicles recovered, sophisticated ammunitions which they used to attack the joint security forces were also recovered.
“There an ongoing war here in Orlu as I speak,” a witness told BH on Thursday. “Bombs and other explosives are being detonated. For over an hour, there has been continuous firing of machine guns and Ak-47 rifles.”
Furthermore, the witness explained that tension started building two days ago when soldiers suddenly raided Orlu with armored tanks and other military hardware.
The witness said, “For two days now, soldiers have been in Orlu firing shots and harassing residents,”
“But today, things have gotten out of hand. It appears that unknown gunmen came to confront them. The kind of gunshots being fired is similar to what you would hear in a war situation. There had been confrontations in the past but nothing close to this.”
The government in Imo State and the security personnel are yet to comment on the incident that occurred.
