FG clarifies information on curfew & the new COVID-19 lockdown
The Federal Government, FG clarifies information on curfew & the new COVID-19 lockdown to correct the misconception from Monday’s announcement.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, clarified the misinterpretation of the information passed on Monday the 11th of May, regarding the curfew and lockdown.
On Tuesday while speaking, Mr. Mustapha said it was incorrectly reported that the federal government had re-introduced nationwide curfew between the hours of 12 am and 4 am, as part of the safety protocols for COVID 19.
He explained that the announcement made by Dr. Mukhtar Mohammed, the National Incident Manager, was taken out of context and misinterpreted.
He further explained that the curfew imposed earlier under Phase Three of the eased lockdown was not relaxed. Hence, it was still ongoing and should be strictly adhered to.
“Under the Fourth Phase of restriction of movement, night clubs, gyms and others will remain closed till further notice; while all citizens will also ensure that mass gatherings outside work settings do not exceed a maximum of 50 people in an enclosed space.”
“These restrictions have been in existence under the Third Phase but are being maintained under Phase Four of the phased restriction of movement,” Mustapha said.
In addition, he made it clear that the PSC hereby reiterates that there is no newly introduced lockdown” and encouraged Nigerians not to panic.
The restrictions are for the benefit of Nigerians and it is the government’s way of putting plans in place to limit the spread of the coronavirus that is still very much prevalent.
All Nigerians are thereby urged to obey for their own good and for the good of others as well. We happen to be facing trying times as a country and it will be best if we all work together to at least ease some of the tension.
The government has made it clear that it is fully committed to protecting the lives of its citizens and ensuring there is peace and stability in the country.
